The Swamp:
The Everglades, Florida, and the Politics of Paradise

Monday, November 3, 2025

November’s book group read is The Swamp: The Everglades, Florida, and the Politics of Paradise by Michael Grunwald.

Here’s a description:

The Swamp is the story of the destruction and possible resurrection of the Everglades, the saga of man’s abuse of nature in southern Florida and his unprecedented efforts to make amends. Michael Grunwald, a prize-winning national reporter for The Washington Post, takes readers on a journey from the Ice Ages to the present, illuminating the natural, social and political history of one of America’s most beguiling but least understood patches of land.

Available in Kindle format, audiobook, and paperback, you can purchase the book on Amazon (free if you have Kindle Unlimited) or at these locations. Charlotte County Library’s copies are currently checked out or on hold. Rich Schmidt has a copy to lend after October 11.

We’ll meet at the PGICA at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 3 to discuss. Meetings are kept to an hour and we always welcome new readers, including men. Even if you don’t have a chance to read the book, but want to join in the fun, feel free to attend.

Rich Schmidt is November’s host. Sign up by contacting Rich.

Happy reading!
