PGIslanders 2024 Chili Cook-Off
Thursday, February 1, 2024
What is better than a little chili on a cool evening? At the February Member Meeting we’re having the PGIslanders 2024 Chili Cook-Off at the PGICA on February 1. Join us at 5:30 PM to socialize a bit before sampling the chili at 6:00 PM. This is a People’s Choice competition – your votes will decide the winners. They’ll be announced during the meeting and prizes awarded!
Sign ups started at the January Member Meeting, and we already have some chili chefs registered, but we need more competitors. Please contact Mary at mymrsphysics@aol.com if you wish to register for this prestigious competition or have any questions. If you do not wish to compete, but can help with set up or take down, please let Mary know.
Those providing chili for the competition can prepare any type, but should prepare six to seven quarts (typical crockpot size) and bring it hot and bubbly at 5:30 PM.
All attendees will receive a cup of each of the chilis for you to enjoy and rate. Along with the chili, we’ll have corn bread, tortilla chips, and dessert. Please bring your own beverages. Unless you’re providing chili for the competition, we’re asking for a $5.00 per person contribution to help defray costs for this event.
The competition will be followed by our February Member Meeting. It’s important to attend this meeting as we’ll be voting to approve the slate of candidates to serve in the next watch.
Hope to see you there!

P.S. In our effort to reduce our use of plastic, we ask you to bring your own metal spoon or fork for the cook-off. Should you forget, we’ll have plastic spoons available. Thank you.
General Meeting
We will also hold the usual general meeting at approximately 7:00 pm. For the education segment, Jake Dye, a long-time PGIslanders member, will give a presentation titled:
What’s in Your Backyard?
Docks, Boatlifts, & Seawalls
The good, the bad, and the really ugly!
